i just got one of these and i LOVE it. i paid $179 out the door for it from a TMobile store. I just found this website tho, and you can get it for $99, check it out:

$299 - $120 Instant Savings = $179 and then on top of that, there is a $80 Mail in Rebate which brings the total down to $99. hot deal if you ask me.

i use the data plan A LOT... my friend and i were looking for someplace to eat today and we drove by olive garden... we started wondering if olive garden's never ending pasta bowl was a special or always on the menu, so i whipped out my CSK and checked. we ended up just going to quiznos cuz we were starving and didn't want to wait for our food. 😉
also, AIM kicks major ass... and email too.

is that store reputable? how well do their rebates work?
 
That's an awesome deal. I've had an SK since it came out, and it is my constant companion. They are getting ready to release an update to the device that will add quite a bit of extra functionality, as well as more apps, etc.
 
only the 59.99 plan available on that page? 😵

i'm currently on the 39.99 plan w/my B&W version of the SK
 
It looks really, really cool. How big is it? Is it heavy? Do you like carrying it around?

Also, I just visited the TMOBILE website, and they're selling them for $299.00 + $50.00MIR...

I can't help but wonder if this is a scam.... :-(

And I don't like the fact that I can't see the status bar on the IE popup in order to tell if the information I am sending to them is really, in fact secure... You know?

If it's too good to be true..... It probably is....
 
I wonder if I would be able to keep my family time plan if I get this?

I understand my contract would be extended another year but I'd like to keep the family time plan.
 
I'm lookign at this or the sony E. T610 with tmobile. after I can swap over my current phone number (nov 24 anyone?)

Anyone have a t610? is it any good for AIM?
 
I own a CSK myself and though it has shortfalls such as being kind of a big phone, I honestly couldn't go back to a regular phone. Being able to browse web pages on the go whereever you are is just unbeatable. Also AIM is on all the time so that's just an added bonus. I just laugh when people tell me about their "INTERNET" capabilities on regular cell phones.

I have a few questions about browsing web pages:

1) What about sites like Fandango.com to browse movie times?
2) Have you logged on to any online banking using your CSK?
3) How does it handle webmail like Yahoo or Hotmail?
4) What are the major limitations?
5) How is the speed?

mine expires in nov too. i want to switch to tmobile pretty badly, but heard their service is not all that good in nor cal, i know they sux at my house so thats why i am waiting haha

1) Haven't used Fandango, but used other sites like MovieFone.com and it works pretty well.
2) No
3) The short answer is, there are mobile versions of those and you can use them to access your webmail.
4) Major limitations of the web browser, or the unit as a whole? The limitations of the web browser are:
- Not all sites can be accessed, such as those using Flash or Java
- The reformatting of the pages to fit the screen is not necessarily optimal which may require a lot of paging
- TMobile coverage is sketchy in certain areas (in So. Cal is mediocre, but I found on a recent trip to Portland that it was great)
5) Assuming a good connection, probably comparable to dial-up

I've had the SK B/W version for almost a year and despite it's limitations, still find it to be a very nice device.
 
They also need to make these things more compatible with other instant messengers. Then, IMHO, their value increases greatly.

It does look awesome though. I have a Nokia 3650, and I wish I would have seen these.

I agree. The real genious aspect of the product is that it has an (almost) full-featured web browser, completely different than the WAP-phones. Because of this, you have access to the entire internet, and all the tools on the web. So in essence, it is a dictionary, a thesaurus, a phone book (+ phone, w00t), plus so much else. Google on the go is great, Mapquest whenever you need it is great, being able to comparison shop on the web while in a local store has saved me money, sports scores, weather, and one of my favorites: being able to bring up a local traffic cam to see what traffic is like on the different routes I might take.

My contract is about up, so I've taken a look around to see what else is out there. As far as I can see, nothing even comes close to the SK for the money. The closest competitors are those Pocket PC phones and the Handspring Treos, but they cost a lot, and the price per month seems a lot higher to me.

Also, w/r/t online banking: the only site I've tried is Wells Fargo, and that works perfectly.

1) Haven't used fandango, I use yahoo movies which works fine.
2) My bank works, though it reformats them so it can be awkward to navigate at times, but it depends on the banks website as I am sure not all of them work. No java as of yet, but Danger (the manufacturer) just signed an agreement with Sun, we just don't know what will come of it yet.
3) Webmail works with both, thought the mobile forms don't need to be reformatted, and work faster... both are already bookmarked when you get the sidekick.
4) The signal strength could be better indoors, so it depends alot on the coverage area. I think this has more to do with T-Mobile's service than anything else. Its comparable with most phones that don't have external antennas.
5) Browsing goes about the speed of a 56k modem (which is the FCC limit for GPRS I believe, though it is capable of higher speeds).

All in all despite the shortfalls, there is really no comparible device that has the same ease of use WITH a QWERTY keyboard. The closest one would be the Treo 600, but it's expensive and the keyboard is really small.

for the sys admins out there, terminal monkey seems REALLY cool... its basically a telnet and SSH client for the sidekick!!! out at dinner and u get a call (or AIM msg 😉) that servers @ the office are having problems? before leaving ur nice dinner to head to hte office, check out the situation from ur table... maybe u can fix it from where ur sitting 🙂

Anybody have any experience with the blackberry? does it have the same features as the Sidekick? I'm interested in one of these once my contract with cingular is up. I would prefer it to be compatible with other instant messengers tho. Wonder if the browser loads icq2go hehe
 
I have used Blackberry (for work), and I am not aware of them having a phone, although I could be wrong...

It works ok...
 
Hrm, i'm looking at the features of the blackberry 7230, and it doesn't say anything about aol instant messaging. bummer. having pop3 email access, and tri band is nice have tho. arg, decisions!
