T-Mobile and Sprint now battling plans

Starting next week, whenever a T-Mobile Simple Choice customer convinces a Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon customer to make the switch to the Un-carrier, both the current and new customers will receive unlimited LTE data for a full year at no additional charge. If you already have unlimited LTE data, T-Mo will give you a $10 credit each month for 12 months.

Many thought that Sprint was going to kill off unlimited data after announcing their new double-data share plans on Monday. In an announcement this morning, claiming today as a “new day for unlimited data,” it’s clear that they still believe in an unlimited way of life. Starting tomorrow, new and existing Sprint customers can sign-up for their new unlimited data plan, which includes unlimited talk and text as well, for $60 per month.

In order to qualify for this new $60 unlimited plan, Sprint customers “must purchase their device through Sprint Easy Pay, pay full retail price or bring their own compatible device.

And if you live where Sprint is decent, there's also this.

Not that they needed to push back at sprint, Sprint's offer isn't nearly as good as T-Mobile's. If you have 4 people they will slam you /w an extra $60 a month. (Sorry was refering to the Family plans). That $60 doesn't seem all that great either....

Verizon is battling too. $60/month for 2gb plan with phone subsidy and contract. ($15 /GB overage)

Its similar to the existing loyalty plan too (though overage for loyalty plan was $10/GB)

One could go on the Verizon plan for $60, get a tablet on T-Mobile and pay $10/month ($20next year) for 1GB data. You get music freedom (unthrottled music steaming from certain programs) and 2g throttled data after 1GB. So Verizon's better network with no overage charges if you can use T-Mobile on your tablet

Is that truly unlimited? On the Sprint prepaid page, they have a $60 unlimited everything plan, but that one has a note reading:

Plus Plans include 2.5GB/month of high-speed data with speeds reduced for remainder of plan cycle. Video streaming may be limited to 3G speeds.

If it's only postpaid that's truly unlimited, then that's a bummer since it won't be much cheaper after taxes than T-Mobile's $80 prepaid unlimited plan (no throttling, 5GB of hotspot data).

It's been there for a while (early this year is when I started to become aware of it, but it's probably there months before that). The new update to that plan is the 2 GB included data which was just added a week or so ago, originally the plan only includes 1 GB data.

It is called the 'Single Line Plan' so you can't have two lines on it, although of course you could always create an account for each line.

This plan is always on Verizon website and can be accessed from this page, and originally it was only a single information page (you have to go to the store and ask for it if you want it). However it has now been connected to the rest of the online store so you could go through check out (and even bring your own phone and activate it online on this plan).

I'm currently using cricket (prepaid at&t) and my service has really gone to shit. When it was aio wireless my service was really good but not long after they switched it to cricket it went downhill fast.

I'll have to call Verizon when the next wave of iphones drop to see what kind of pricing they can give me for the plan and phone.

Is GoPhone an option for you (their plans, I mean)? AT&T was really trying hard to differentiate their two prepaid options when they rolled in Cricket with AiO. They wanted to be clear that GoPhone is their primary/first tier prepaid (uncapped LTE, priorities, etc), while Cricket is the 'budget' option (capped LTE, high ping, etc).

If Verizon can give me a decent deal to switch over I'll do it but I'm waiting to see what the next iPhone brings to the table first

Understood. Well there's always trade-off with these things, so you just have to know all the options available and pick the one that suits you best.

With Cricket and GoPhone you already have your phone and you're free of contract, but if you go to Verizon you'll have to either take the subsidy and commit to a contract (and pay $1/2/300) for the phones, or spend some money up front for the phones' full retail price.

Keep in mind that the Cricket plan you are using is $45 flat; likewise, the AT&T GoPhone plan with 2.5GB is also $60 flat. The Verizon 2GB line, however, is $60 + taxes and fees since it is postpaid.

I'm deliberating over leaving my $40 T-Mobile prepaid service for the Verizon plan, but it'll realistically end up being ~$38 more after all the fees. Now I'm looking into Verizon prepaid which would be a better option if it has the same quality of service as postpaid. It's $45/month for 500MB of data with the option to add a 3GB package (which will last for 90 days) for $20.

Moved the fam over to T-Mobile's service as a result of their promo. It's blazingly fast here in the Denver area (16 megabit down on LTE consistently!) $117/month for 4 lines, I can live with that. I can always switch to Cricket once the 2.5gb/month promo is over to save the ~$17/mo.

Sprint wasn't even a consideration, it was dialup speed data in 2012 when I had them and I hear it's even worse today.

And yeah, postpaid $60 is going to be around $68-72 by the time the bill hits.

Not possible. They only have 3G labeled as 4G.they might get 4G by 2020.
