Well you can keep your zo6, and ill get me a RUF porsche and you wont see that past 200mph :p Then ill just get out of that and sit back in the luxury of my aston martin vantage. I have nothing against the big engines, I prefer efficiency and the noise of a F360 as it passes 3600rpm and the exhaust induction valve opens as it blasts toward its 8500rpm redline mmmmm. Oh dont forget they are european cars so it litre not liter ;) and somehow I doubt either of those cars you mentioned would get within 10 seconds of a ferari around the nurburgring.

Wow, people are basing the performance of cars solely on 0-60 and quarter mile...

good one. :ugh:

Check the content of the last few posts first there Mr. Soulkeeper. We are talking about marketing.

Joe six-pack only understands Mhz and if we enthusiasts want to see our beloved AMD survive to fight another day, they have to fight fire with fire. There is no point in trying to try and educate the masses on why IPC is the REAL benchmark that matters.

You are talking about North Americans (The reason that I single us out is because we buy the most stuff). We have been so over exposed to big block V-8 cars that no matter what you try to say, you can never convince the majority of the populous that the Porche or Ferrari with the V-6 can kick the a$$ off a Corvette or Mustang. 80% or more of the general populous are lemmings. They will go anywheres that the TV tells them to or buy whatever they are told to. The problem is that there are too many lemmings that are in positions of power that only see the Mhz and not the IPC. They only see $$$.

This really is huge for AMD if they can pull this off. I definately never saw it coming. If AMD can pull this off, it could really compete with the 2.53GHz.

X-Bit Labs called the Swiss Computer company!

And they got the answer that the T-breds will appear after June 16th. So..this is hardly a fake.

Also.. the prices do seem steep. But remember that those are pre launch prices. Also bear in mind that the general price level in this store is a good bit higher than what you can find in the US today. For instance.. the 2100+ is about us dollar 290 on this site, while on pricewatch you can find the same chip for us $ 178 today! That would put the 2500+ at around us $ 250 (once it's released in the us) which is very reasonable.

So.. if the chips do turn out to be a whole lot cheaper in the us I would hardly be surprised.

Btw.. What would you rather have.. An athlon running at 15x166=2500 mhz or a p4 @ about 3 ghz? I think most ppl will understand which is faster, MUCH faster.

One more thing.. if the t-breds do infact overclock as much as has been implied by some.. You wouldn't have to unlock them! A 2500+ chip could be overclocked to 2,5 ghz just by upping the bus speed to 166 mhz. Provided you have a board that can handle that speed.

I think this could very well become the next oc king after the NW!

To all the ppl that somehow can't understand why many are excited about this.. Well.. if you don't understand why that is by now.. I am sorry for you :)

SSXeon:
If this chip really has a 384K l2 the it's a BARTON, not a T-Bred. A proc that has 512K total cache, check the roadmaps.

If this is what they are running this high then I can't wait to see the benches on that bad a$$. 2.7Ghz and a 512k cache, Northwood slaps all round. Nice if it has an FSB bump too :), but doubt it.... :(

SSXeon

SSXeon is very much correct. The Corvette and 75K Viper (ACR Package 460HP/500TQ) pretty easily beat the overpriced Porche or Ferrari. A stock Viper can run high 11's all day. 2003 will bring a 500HP/500TQ Viper.

275 Ft-Lbs of torque is nothing (jeez, my Grand AM GT has 205... add a 3K supercharger and I match a F360 TQ), and torque is what throws you back in your seat. The big engines give torque which is something these little foreign High Rev engines can't give.

Not to mention the larger engines also respond better to things like supercharging etc. Those little engines are already maxed out.

POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL

Take your Vette's, 'Stangs and stick them on a real track, not a drag strip, then do one lap. Porsche, Ferrari, etc. will come in the top spots (not necessarily in that order) then all the other scrap metal, it's that simple.

The analogy was that ppl who think High BHP = a fast car think MHz = a fast PC. We are discussing that these are both myths, which they patently are.

Remeber in the 60's when Cooper Minis were toasting Mustangs? That was not an HP thing, they only had a 3rd of the power, but the cars had much better handling and power/weight ratio.
