I purchased it on Steam... though during payment confirmation I got an error message about servers being busy and that they will contact me when the issue is resolved. I have it on my list as Not Released Yet. Is that normal?

Yeah, why would anyone pay for a patch and a map pack that should have been free?

Never stopped people from paying for maps on console games or for paying for a new episode of half life 2 that's finished in about 30 minutes.

Yeah, well that's why I don't own any consoles :p

But seriously, when Crytek announced they weren't releasing the 1.04 (or whatever - I don't remember) patch because the changes were going to come with Warhead... What a low thing to do. They sold a TON of copies of Crysis and basically said, "Hey all you idiots who bought Crysis! Guess what? The patch that's going to make Crysis run all nice and pretty is going to cost you money! ahahahahahahah see what we did there?"

I wonder if installing Warhead on top of Crysis would update the original.

Warhead isn't a patch. It's a stand alone product.

It should be a patch. That's my point.

Huh? It's a whole new full-length game. Crysis had multiplayer, whether you think it sucked or not. It also had a decent full-length single player mode. The developers didn't "leave anything out" from Crysis - they just made new stuff. Stardock might be the only developer around that gives the fanbase stuff for free - don't get used to it.

Bought it on steam and am counting down the minutes to playing it. Ive been playing a lot of Stalker Clear Sky to hold me over, and got a GEforce 260 to replace my 8800gtx for maximum graphics on my 28" lcd. Im Stoked.

I guess I'm still resisting this whole 'pay for patches and maps' bullshit.

Also,
Developer Crytek has announced that it is cutting short support for a Crysis patch - but the sequel, Crysis Warhead is due out this fall.

"As you know, it was a very hard decision for us to cancel Patch 1.3, but in the end it was important we shift our focus to some of the new and exciting things we are doing with Crysis Warhead," the development team explained on its community forums.

Crysis Warhead will continue the original game's storyline and follow the battles of an elite team exploring disturbances on a remote island. Also featuring the engine that powered the original game, it will be PC-exclusive.

Crytek recently joined a stream of developers who bemoaned the lack of sales on the PC platform and singled out piracy in particular as a key reason for poor sales.

Crytek President Cevat Yerli had also said that his studio's future games would likely no longer be PC exclusives, but he added that Crysis could not be redeveloped for consoles.

Crytek canceled a patch because they included the fixes in Warhead, leaving people who purchased the tech demo titled Crysis SOL. IIRC the patch was canceled not too long before it was due to be released.

Why the hell would anyone want to support a game company that gave updates only to those who pay?

I think Crytek sucked the evil out of EA.

The IGN review said it was supposed to be incremently better looking at the highest settings, which seem to be fully playable on a 8800GTS and above. I think for $30 it's a better deal than some other games out there ATM.

Sure I'm teed off that they canceled the Crysis patch that would prob would have implemented the optimizations, but oh well. I'd be more pissed if they charged $50 bucks for Warhead.

Worst case, they should just release the patch now that they're done with Warhead. If it's some ploy to encourage those who couldn't enjoy the unoptimized version they bought last year to buy a new one this year, it's a pretty crappy thing to do
