Recently installed Windows XP and was running great. I'm suprised on how fast it is on a P2 450MHZ. But anyways, I installed Systemworks Pro 2002 and now everything seems to be a lot slower. I looked at the processes to find the svchost.exe is taking 50-60% of my CPU Usage. Figuring that the only change I did was install Systemworks, I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal. I later reinstalled it to find the same problem exists. I was able to narrow down to what looks to be the source of the probem. If I disable Norton Antivirus on the taskbar, my CPU usage goes back to normal. But when I renable it, I'm back to 50-60% CPU Usage. Anyone have similar problems. Any ideas. This was a fresh install of Windows XP and a few other programs. Thanks

Can't help ya much but here is my stats on a Amd 1700+@1.6gig are as follows:

4 svchost process - 2 system - 1 network - 1 local

All four = 0% cpu usage, but one system process uses about 9 megs of ram.

Sorry for no help :(, but I tried

-Peace

An option, other than a new machine, it to not run Norton's all the time. Just start it when you need to scan an attachment/file or scan the hdd. I had nothing but problems with it on my XP partition and had to manually delete every entry out of the registry, then reinstall. I almost got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. :frown:

IF I happen to reply to a thread and there is something new that you believe I would be interested in, PM me, cause I never look @the same thread twice.

You're kidding, right?

I think SystemWorks in general is a resource hog. I used to run SystemWorks 2002 Profession on Windows XP Professional. I have a Pentium 4 2ghz with 256 mb RDRAM, and I noticed that it was sluggish all the time. The processor usage for norton antivirus, and all the other stuff norton loads took up about 15% of my processor usage all the time. I uninstalled.. and everything was fine back to normal.

I prefer Ontrack SystemSuite V4 in WinXP,it`s not a resource hog and is rock stable ,I agree with oldsmoboat in that the only thing you can really do is only run the Norton programs you need ,as for the anti-virus that should be on all the time however if you feel it`s using too much cpu usage then try AVG which is free from
here .

Norton System Doctor is a hog, but I have no problems running NAV or Norton Firewall.
