Less than a week after I had to do a fresh install because of this error:

I get this new boot up error now:
\systemroot\system32\config\software
It's probably part of the registry right? Why is Win2K giving me sooo many problems? If I was in school, I would've said screw it and went with Win98SE. I thought Win2K was suppose to be more stable. Anyway, has anyone had any similar problems like this? I haven't been able to try the system restore yet, because I don't have my bootdisks with me. But I'm hoping that'll work later tonight. I know I backed up my registry on that disk. Could these problems come as a result to this ACPI problem covered in this thread?

Thanks for any input!

DC- I think that you are on the right track with the ACPI and the 2 mb cache.. I would look at dong what Steelo did and run the system like that until you get a patch from MS or Drivers...I was going to suggest that you may have a bad drive. IF you can then try to disable the write cache on the drive. That may keep you from having the system corrupt the drive on you on spin down

Panther...

Thanks for the info! How exactly do I disable write cache on my drive? I just remembered I did a back up of my Win2K system... so I'll probably just have to format, reinstall and then restore... sweet, don't think I need to reinstall all my programs and what not.

Open System Properties and select Device Mangler. Open the properties on the Drive and on one of the tabs there is a check box for Write cache. Clear it and see what happens.. Let us know as there are others with your problem and if this is a short term fix until MS provides a fix then great.
