System won't post. Missing NTLDR?

Hi,

I went to scan a suspicious file with NAV2002 and it said that my boot records had changed. I got alarmed, so I had NAV repair the boot record. Well.. I shut down my system and now it won't even post.

What can I do in this situation? Anything? How can I get back in my system and fix these changes? I'm using Partition Magic for formatting and I tried using the restore discs and they won't work. I've tried booting from a WinME startup disc and I can't seem to start my system. Any suggestions?

I need help!

TIA,

Sal

I think I know what happened. I used Partition Magic to change my partitions and when Norton AV gave me an error, it was because I had changed the partitions with PM. My mistake was letting NAV fix the boot manager...

So.. How do I go about undoing what I did? I'm trying to use the Partition Magic emergency discs, but I can't see how they would restore anything that I let NAV mess up.

Help.. 🙁

I assume you are using Win2K.

Boot off the Win2K cd and get into recovery console you should then be able to restore your MBR. Click here for instructions.

BTW, I think this is in the wrong forum 😉

I'm running a multi boot setup with WinME, Win2k and WinXP. I tried to boot off the Win2k cd and it wouldn't for some reason. I guess I will try it again though. I can't make start up floppies because my other machine is running Win98 exclusively.

I was originally thinking hard drive (hardware) on the original post and realize that I posted this in the wrong forum. I did this once before and the moderators locked my new post in the correct forum, thinking I was cross posting or something.

Anyway.. Thanks again for the info. I'll mess with it this morning and see what I can come up with.
