System won't POST even with power

Current system:
ASUS P4C800
Pentium4 2.8C
20gig HD & 80gig HD
512MB Corsair PC3200
Radeon 9800 Pro
420W Turbolink PSU

Alright, my system won't POST even though the power LED on the mobo and when I hit the power button everything turns on (fans & neon light) except HD's don't spin up nor does the processor seem to come on (even though the proc fan is spinning). I had the same problem with an Epox 8k3a and Athlon 1800+ and I thought that my new proc & mobo would fix this. I've checked over the common errors (AGP slot, RAM seated correctly, proc fan is hooked up to the proper power connection) but it simply won't post. I'm thinking my PSU is bad, but any other ideas for me to try before I run to the store and pick up a new one?? Thanks

try swapping out cpu's first, then memory, then board, then psu

Get rid of the flaming pants extra crap IE. the neon lighting. Try that first. If that's not the cause then FIRST try replacing RAM. RAM is probably one of the most problematic things in anyone's computer. It's one of the first things to break and also the last. Bane of most people's problems. After that THEN check your HDD's. Sounds like either no power or bad cabling (IDE or power cables). I'd try them in say a friend's computer (slave mounts) just to see if they work in the first place. AFter all that I'd then go vid card etc. etc. with the CPU being last, even after the mother board. CPU is one of the last things that usually breaks if the CPU started out good. Unless you bought a bad one or burned it up with inadaquate heat disipation, then it shouldn't be the problem. Make sure your Motherboard supports the type RAM/CPU etc.

Unhook everything but cpu, heatsink/fan, video and memory. See if it will post?

Ditto. Also, make sure you have a 4-pin power connector plugged into your video card, since it requires auxiliary power too. Welcome to the Forums Khajiiti

make sure your motherboard isn't grounding out on your case. I've had this problem many times before, and the first thing I do is take the motherboard out of the case and lie it on a box, hook everything up and turn it on to see if it works. I wouldn't recommend you do this unless you know what your doing, as having the mobo ontop of something leaves it vulnerable to static or other types of damaging forces. If it does turn on out of the box, then you need to get some of those washer things for the screws that go into the risers... Also make sure your not tightening the screws to tight that connect the mobo to the risers.

also, make sure the cpu is in the slot correctly, my 2.0a was really pissing me off, i would turn the system on and nothing would happen, i took off the hsf and noticed that the lever was not all the way down, pushed it down smoe more and it booted right up. kick ass rig btw!

I have had similar problems with my Asus P4C800 Deluxe. It would not boot my harddrive. Usually took four or five times to get power to the HD for it to spin. I tried 3 power supplies, new ram...the cpu is fine. The hd boots up fine in my old computer. I thought it was the power switch from my cooler master case, but that worked fine on my old computer.

I sent my mobo back to new egg today and hope a new one will work better. It seems alot of people are having problems with their hard drives booting up with this board. wonder why? Asus never sent back a reply to an email I sent their help line.
