Hi Guys
Time to move on to a i5 2500k. I want buy a solid Mboard to OC to around 4.5Ghz and keep my 8800gts 320mb (unfortunately I don't have time for games :'(). So stability, speed and future proof (pci-e 3, sata 3, usb 3) are important factors. Graphics are not.
So this is what I have in mind:
i5 2500k
ASRock Z68 pro 3 gen3 »Specifications
This is what I already have:
G-Skill 2x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Corsair M4 64GB Sata3 SSD
Sigmatek Gaia Cooler
X-Power 700Watt PSU
storage hdd, dvd-rw, case, etc... but those don't really matter
So I have a couple of questions that I can't get straight answers just by "Googling". That's why I'm bothering people here.
1 - My psu is 700w ATX12V ver 2.2 compliant and comes with 3x 4pin 12volt motherboard connectors but no 8 pin. I believe that plugging one 4 pin to the 8pin is fine, according to the ASRock Z68 pro 3 gen3 manual but... is there any catch doing this?
2 - And on the mboard specifications it reads: "ErP/EuP ready power supply is required." If my psu is not ErP/EuP it won't work? What is the crack with this?
3 - I'm not too familiar with this new i5 cpu + integrated graphics thing. Will my 8800gts 320mb hold the system back? Or will the system graphics work better without it? I need it to play 1080p videos and to support the 3d rendering in Photoshop.
4 - Is the ASRock Z68 pro 3 gen3 a good choice or is there a better Z68 for the same price range $130 USD / £90 GBP?
Thank in advance
