System turns itself off...

A certain member of my family had moved my comp around a lot, and silly me forgot to look inside and check everything out, so as I'm sittin at the machine today, it just turned off, out of nowhere. I checked all the plugs, then opened the case to find my HSF dangling off the socket (XP 1600+ on a K5s7a). I replaced the hsf, and the computer booted, but would not load windows, turning off and restarting before the splash screen even hit. I tried again a few hours later and was able to get into windows, but it immediately shut down as soon as windows was nearing the end of loading. Did I fry my cpu?

probably, damn, that sucks
you should feel lucky it even turns on.

at least the 16/17/1800's are cheap, cause youre prolly gonna be needing one

make sure that the hsf didnt knock any ram out of place and that all the pci/agp cards are ok and properly seated. im guessing you toasted your cpu, but check all of that other stuff out first. also, make sure you remounted the heatsink properly and that you have enough thermal compound applied to give sufficient cooling.
