System Turning-Off by Itself

I've just put together a system with the A7V8X board running on XP1800+ with 256mb ram pc2700. I'm using a Powmax 400W power supply, model LP8800D.

The problem is the system will turn off by itself after being on for sometime or even turning off after powering it on at the post screen. This is the same problem which happens when I was using an A7V33 board previously.

Does anyone has any idea what's the cause?

hehe i had the same problem my comp would just go to safe mode by it self or just reboot while booting

Try unpluging the reset, power button an all the other ones there an just jump start the comp with a screw driver(were the power button cable goes jump the 2 prongs sticking up)

Found out my reset button was acting up on a new case no less! So I just plug only the power button cable in solved my problem

It may work for you although there may be something else. What's you cpu temp. Try to run your comp at stock speed ram, cpu, vid card see if that may help.

The cpu is running at default speed (1533) with the ram set as Auto. No overclocking on the vga too. The temp is around 42C to 43C.

Have you tried any means of troubleshooting yet?
if not, swap out that PS and see what happens.
either that or possibly memory.. although that would usually mean reboots instead of shutdowns (unless that is what's happening)
if the problem is at the same spot every time, it's possibly not even hardware.
it also could be a grounding problem from the mobo to the case...

hope this helps.

I had a similar problem with my 8RDA+ also.

Check to make sure that the heatsink is making good contact with the cpu. In my case, I noticed that the cpu temperatures were quite high even at stock speed. This was the problem

Have you checked the +12 and +5 rails? If they're running low it could be a problem.

make sure the case or any components arent grounding somewhere. i was having a random reboot problem when i installed my new geforce3 so i checked, i had my case sides off and one of the corners was in contact with my desk. put the sides back on and its great now :D also, if theres a heat problem, get one of those slot exhaust blowers thingies. hope that helps

I would suspect one of the plugs from the case. Probably the powerswitch. Especially if your using the same case with this motherboard as the a7v333.

The Powmax "400W" PSU has less power on 3.3V + 5V rails than today's quality 300W units do, at only 180W 3.3+5. You're basically trying to power your system off the equivalent of a ~250W power supply that got labelled "400W." Get a better PSU such as a 300-400W Antec SL300-SL400, or Sparkle Power 300-400W, or Enermax 351.
