System temp high?

I recently made the switch from AMD to Intel and have noticed that the system temp is higher with Intel. Does the Intel cpu and chipset run hotter than the AMD cpu and the nforce ultra 400 chipset? My cpu idle temp is good but the system temp is @ 32c

I was curios if the intel chipsets run hotter than the nVIDIA chipsets because I am using the same case setup that I was using on my AMD system. Also if the P4's run hotter than the XP's

well the p4E's run hotter by 100000 degrees, don't know about the C's

I heard that all the AMD processors run hotter than P4s. And I can definetly believe that because my old computer was a P4 and I only had one fan in the case and the temp was ok. My new computer is a AMD and the AMD requires some case cooling along with good cpu cooling. I have two 120mm fans plus a good cpu cooling unit running.

The Athlon XPs run hotter than Intel chips, however the Athlon 64s with cool & quiet keep idle temps down a lot (cooler than P4s). I'd say the load temps would be cooler too - especially compared to the Prescotts.

depends which chips yes. and yea cool and quiet speed/power throttling/fan speed control helps keep things cool assuming you get the m/bthat supports the feature for a64. silentpcreview.com has list

System temp is the most useless reading ever.
It does not measure the actual air temperature in your case as everybody believes but it is the temperature of the monitor chip and thus depends on where that chip is located on the board. If it's close to heat sources you will get high system temps, if it's somerwhere on the edge of the board you will get low temps.
On my MSI K7N2-L the monitoring chip is located between the CPU socket, the AGP slot and the Northbridge. When I turn up my CPU fan the "system temp" is higher than my CPU temp at idle.

I kind of figured that out and then placed temp probes in different locations in my case. Each probe gives me a different temp and all are at least 6c cooler than the system temp from the bios and hardware monitor. Around the psu it is 28.5 and the bottom and the middle of the case are 27.5.
