anyone know why this is happening? Whenever my CDROM is copying data to the HD, or playing a data CD, everything slows down REALLY SLOW. i'm on an Athlon 1.1 with 256 RAM on IWILL KK266 board. are there any special settings in the bios i should look at? could it be my cables? i just don't get it.

i've tried both DMA and PIO and i'm running Win2k Pro. the first drive is a 12X DVD and the second is a 12X CDRW.

hmm... have you tried swaping the drives on the chain? (Make sure Master/Slave is set correctly for both)

I have similar problem, except my CD-RW and DVD rom are fine, it is my CD-ROM (a Creative Labs 52X) that gives me lag and problems. The delay with the spin down and warm up when ever the CD is inserted is a pain in the butt. Is there anyway to fix this? And is this common of CD-ROMS at Greater than 32X? Cause on my other system I have a 24X and a 32X CDROM and neither of them seem to spindown and warm up as long. I drop a CD in and it is seen and ready to rock.

Oh, I have autorun turned off...not sure if that would make the difference.

Copying a whole cd to my HD make my CPU utilization up to 99% for the whole process in win2k. That's ridiculous.
