SS1 was Doom1 era pseudo 3D.
SS2 uses a modded Dark Engine from Thief.

I have SS1 still in storage. I found SS2 too tough with all those respawning zombies and in the end gave up and cheated my way through.

Fingers crossed.

System Shock 2 remains one of the best and scariest games ever made. If you haven't played it, you're really missing out.

Totally agree and co-op play was excellent too.

Dude, you need to play SS2. It's a great game. There'a couple of mods you use, one is for higher res (like 12 x 10 on the monitor), the other is a high res pack for the monsters. The graphics are a bit dated, but the game play is so immersive that you won't notice after a few minutes. The sound effects are great too.

Here's a link to a thread over at THG that has links and data for the mods I mentioned.

I hope SS3 does the series justice. Awesome game.

That would be AWESOME. SS2 was AMAZING. Too bad I can't seem to get it to run in XP :( Would love to play through it again.

Holy moses! I have SS2 in a zip file on my desktop. As soon as I have a windows install that can handle SS2 (i.e. POS computer with win98 or something instead of my servers), I'm going to install and play through it again. :D

If SS3 comes out, that'll be great -but I don't have a system that I could comfortably play it on. Then again, I'm not happy unless I'm playing at 1280x960 with absolutely all of the video goodies turned on and up all the way.
