System restarts instead of Shutting Down??

To cut a long story short...

PII 450
256Mb

Abit BH6 Motherbaord dies
Replace for Soyo Slot 1 Mobo
When shutdown is selected, comes up with it is now safe to turn off your computer then restarts. Have to hold pwr button down to turn off.

Tried clean install Win ME/Win 2K.

Any suggestions?

this is a long shot..But the wires going to mobo are backwards??you have + were - are???the small wires not the power supply ones

Hi,

in win2k, that's quite a common fenomenon. Your computer is probably configured as a 'Standard PC' instead of a 'ACPI compliant PC'.

You can not fix that...only a reinstall of win2k will do. during the install, press F6 when (at the bottom of the screen) they ask to press F5 for SCSI...

Then choose the right computer type (ACPI compliant)

there are al ot of threads about this...look around!

I had win Me doing the same thing first so I changed to a clean install of 2k. I will try checking the pwr switch connector. Thanks
