system:
Athlon 1700
gigabyte 7vtxh mobo
**crucial 2 x 256 = 512 Ram**
Radeon 8500 vid card
Windows XP home

**system currently reporting 384 ram.... missing 128 of Ram=missing HALF a stick of ram?**

system is a home built, it did report the correct amount of Ram last year when built, system has been just reformated and reinstalled due to some bad crashes which I thought was due to a dying battery on the mobo (replaced bat with reinstall)

anybody have any ideas whats up?

My system did the same thing when I tried to overclock my RAM. I cleared the BIOS and it returned to the correct total of RAM.

how do you clear bios again?
Usually it's explained in the manual, but hard to make sense of those docs. There should be a little plastic jumper connecting two metal pins somewhere on the motherboard - your motherboard diagram will better explain where it is. Take the jumper off the two pins, the 1st and 2nd pins if you will, that it is currently on and place it so that it is now on the 2nd and 3rd pin. Then take it off the 2nd and 3rd pins such that it is now on the 1st and 2nd pins once again. Your BIOS is now cleared. Reboot and see if your computer is now functioning correctly.
