I am new to this forum, but I was hoping to get some advice. I'm a mac user. I love my mac, but I want to build a PC for Gaming. I don't know much about computers though. I want to build a PC that is a great bang for my buck, but I'm leaning a little more to the Bang side...if you follow. My questions to you all are as follows:

1. Shoud I wait a coupe of moths to get a mobo with PCI express, nforce 4 to accoumodate a Nvidia 6800 GT? (by waiting for PCI I will have upgrade potential)

2.) Whats a good LCD display for gaming? (Ive heard samsung 213T)

3.) Any reccomendations? Things to stear away from? Things that I should definetly get?

Help me out.. I want a good machine ASAP, while still taking into consideration the trends in gaming. If I need to wait for PCI express I will. Here's what I've come up with so far:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor
XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card
Seagate 160GB Barracuda 7200.7 7200RPM SATA II with NCQ Hard Drive, Model ST3160827AS, OEM
ANTEC Silver Aluminum Performance 1 Series ATX Mid-Tower Case
Antec 430W Power Supply, Model "TRUE430"
2 x Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency 184 Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200 PRO
Monitor ????????
Mobo ????????

Please comment on any of my ideas and make suggestion also.

Thanks

hi and welcome to the board 🙂

to answer your questions...

1) i'd recommend buying now, as the performance benefit of PCI express with only 1 Nvidia 6800 GT is marginal...however upgrade potential is definitely something to consider

2) Dell UltraSharp 2001fp 21" 1600x1200 16ms LCD

3) mobo - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (Socket 939, nForce3-250gb chipset) ($140 @gameve.com)

you have a nice system in the works

if you plan to oc .. stick with the ram... if not a value ram would work.. and you should wait for dual channel mobo for a64

Definitely wait for the Dual Channel mobo for Athlon 64, and go with some good Value select. You might think about getting a WD Raptor hard drive for speed, but that's if you want to spend more on the power.

Whats the dual channel Mobo? When will that come out? So I need to be looking for a nforce 4 , dual channel, PCI express Mobo. Right?

The 939 mobos ARE dual channel. You will need to substitute a 3200+ 90nm 939 or a 3500+ 90nm 939 pin cpu to use the board recommended above.

So are you saying the Athlon 3400 won't work with a dual channel 939 mobo? And do you mean that any 939 mobo will be duaql channel?
