System reboots when clicking "open with" . . . WTF?

The title more or less says it all. When I try to "open with" on this system, it reboots. No idea why. When I try to run Norton Utilities to diagnose the problem, same thing - reboot. I've seen a BSOD once, but it didn't stay long enough for me to be able to read the error.

System Info:

AMD XP 1800
MSI Nforce Mobo
All Latest Drivers
Latest Bios

We've built two other systems just like this (it was a batch of three systems) with no problems. I'm running memtest right now to check the memory.

The system runs Sandra stress-tests for hours on end with no problems. It isn't overclocked, and heat isn't an issue - it's running at 53c right now, under full load.

Any ideas?

Spontaneous reboots often mean power supply issues - inadequate or overworked. If it only happens when you click 'open with' it could be something viral.

It's not a virus. McAfee installed after building the PC, and all applications have been installed fresh from our applications server.

Check eventviewer.

Also disable automatic reboot on memory dump. This way you will get to see the blue screen before it restarts.

To check eventviewer click on start then run. Type in eventvwr

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > System Failure > uncheck Automatically Reboot.

Hope this helps!
