System Properties problem: PCI Multimedia Audio Device

Under the System Properties, there is a problem: "PCI Multimedia Audio Device". See the System Properties Here (Please ignore the IBM PC Camera, the PCI Multimedia Audio Device problem was there before i installed the PC Camera)

I don't know what's it and not be able to install the driver. I suspect it is either the Sound card or Modem but I've tried both CDs and still didn't work.

Any ideas?

BTW, the sound card is SB Live Value and the modem is Mach2 Modem (the modem from Staples free after rebate)

The reason I'm checking this is because I can't get the CallWave internet answering machine to work on the PC so i think it might has something to do with this. (the CallWave works great on my another PC with the same phone line so the problem is in this PC).

Does your mobo have on board sound? If so make sure it is disabled in your bios.

Have you tried removing the device and seeing if Windows will redetect it? Might it be your SB16 emulation (provided by the sblive drivers)?

Does your IBM camera have a microphone? This may be the device for the microphone.

The SB doesn't appear in there correctly. Remove the offending deivce and remove all devices under sound, video and game controllers, except wave device for modem, thats fine. Uninstall via add/rem programs the sound blaster and reboot. Reinstall the sound blaster and keep fingers crossed.

Thank you for all the helps.

- The mobo is MSI K7T Pro, which has onboard sound but I've disabled it.
- I think it has nothing to do with IBM camera because the problem was there before i installed the IBM camera. (the IBM camera doesn't has microphone)

badthad, you said the properties of SB doesn't appear in there correctly, what should it shows when it is installed correctly? Can anyone here provide the answer (i bet a lot of people in this board have the SB Live Value)?

Here is what I see in my System Properties for SB Live Value:
- Creative Miscellaneous Devices (nothing under this category) <- I said this is under SB Live Value because I only have 1 Creative device in this PC, the sound card.
- Sound, video and game controllers (2 properties under this category)
--- Creative Gameport Joystick
--- Creative SB Live! Value

I looked in my devices and the only thing listed is the &quot;Creative SB Live! Value&quot;, so I think you're OK. As I recall, I choose NOT to run the DOS compatibility mode crap. I don't play any dos games anymore.

The other devices ? thing must be your disabled on board sound. I've never dealt with on board sound, but I suspect windows will still detect it. You can't install, nor do you want to, a disabled device. Just ignore it.

I believe the root of your problems lie in the modem. Get a good modem and try it in there.

I have dealt with onboard sound before. Presumably, if you disable the sound in your BIOS, it should not be detected by Windows. Of course, it doesn't always happen that way.

In &quot;Creative Miscellaneous Devices&quot;, you should have three entries: Creative SB16 Emulation, Creative Multimedia Interface, and Creative Gameport Joystick.

Now, I'm not sure if this configuration is standard, but maybe your SBlive was not set up correctly, since your gameport is listed under &quot;Sound, video and game controllers&quot;. I know that, at least for me, the only entry listed under &quot;Sound, video and game controllers&quot; is &quot;Creative SBLive Value&quot;. Also, since you have nothing listed under &quot;Creative Miscellaneous Devices&quot;, I'm pretty sure your sound card was not installed correctly, and your unknown device is really your SB16 emulation.

Try removing the drivers completely and reinstalling your SBLive.

Ok, I removed the drivers and reinstalled it.
Here is what I got now:

- Creative Miscellaneous Devices
--- Creative Multimedia Interface
--- Creative SB16 Emulation

- Sound, video and game controllers (2 properties under this category)
--- Creative Gameport Joystick
--- Creative SB Live! Value

BUT, the &quot;PCI Multimedia Audio Device&quot; error is still there
I'll try to reinstall the modem.

As others have suggested, it's possible that the &quot;PCI Audio Device&quot; is referring to your onboard sound (which, even though you disabled through your BIOS, still might be getting picked up by Windows). It still isn't clear to me as to whether you tried removing the device from the control panel (highlight the device and click the &quot;Remove&quot; button at the bottom of the window). After doing this, restart your machine and see if Windows still detects something.

Or, it could be the modem. Keep us posted.
