"System" process uses 99% of CPU...

What could be the problem? The System process uses 99% of CPU. I thought a format/reintsall would fix it, but it is still occurring after restoring (using the HP manufacturer full restore option).

System Idle Process? That's telling you how much your computer *isn't* being used. If it's at 99%, then you have 1% cpu activity.

lol..no that's not it. It is a process called System. The computer is very slow because it is running full throttle all the time. It is definitely not the System Idle Process.

Oh, ok. I didn't remember seeing that, but it's here on my work machine. What O/S are you on? I'll look into it some when I get on my home computer.

The "System" process runs a lot of other things.

Download Process Explorer from Microsoft and investigate.

It's probably just running benign background tasks. It may say that "system" has 99 percent usage, but on the task manager graphs is your CPU actually at 99% utilization?

seems fishy to mee....

99percent and you aren't doing ANYTHING??

( besides encoding that movie in the background huh) lol

It's running all the time. The computer is running super slow because of it. The whole format/reinstall took 3 times longer than usual thanks to whatever is causing it.

There's something else wrong here. HP/Compaq's restore process occurs outside of windows.

Try a different hard drive and a clean install of windows, see if it still shows up.

No need to Just Push Air when the actual data can easily obtained.

Download this Free utility (No need to install just run the unzipped exe file), http://technet.microsoft.com/e...nternals/bb896653.aspx

Look at the View Menu to make sure that you check all the info that you need.

Pairing it with this might further help,

http://technet.microsoft.com/e...nternals/bb896645.aspx

If you want to find which port are opened and listening to what, http://technet.microsoft.com/e...nternals/bb897437.aspx

If you want to erase everything next time you do a format, then follow the instructions on the screen during the install to delete then re-create the primary partition.

Then you can make a list of all the BIOS settings and clear your CMOS. (You can google "clear CMOS".)

Most often when I see this, its actually caused by a driver not loading/performing properly when you have bad hardware. The last occurance was because of faulty USB ports.
