System Performing Too Slow??

I recently put a Creative Geforce 2 in my computer and ran 3dmark2000, to my surprise I got 1332 3dmarks, from past experience with other video cards and looking at other peoples scores this is extremely low.

Most of my games seem to be running at the same speed as my old G400

I tried the NVIDIA 6.31 reference drivers and creatives 6.34 drivers with pretty much the same result.

Does anyone have any ideas on the cause?

My system contains:

Athlon 500
256mb pc100
Asus K7M
Creative Annihilator 2
Soundblaster Live
Dlink 530tx 10/100
Win98se

 
I put it at the top but I'll repeat it clearer.
a Classic Athlon 500 (Never been overclocked)
the motherboard is an Asus K7M
 
oops sorry! I was to quick to respond. Try and download sisoft sandra and benchmark each of your components. ie. cpu, hardrive, memory.
