System Pauses Every ~1min 5 sec?

Hey guys,

I keep noticing that my whole system does a "freeze" every so often. I have noticed that it happens ~ every 1 minute 5 seconds. It isn't very noticeable when just surfing or doing everyday things on the computer, I really started noticing it when listening to music. Every time it happens there is a pause in the music and the mouse pointer pauses where it is. It only happens for a fraction of a second, but it is really starting to get annoying, especially since I listen to music a lot and have to hear the pasue every minute. I just recently built the computer and everything has seemed to be running fantastic except for this pause.

AMD 64 3500+ 90nm at stock speed
MSI K8N Neo Platinum 2 (latest BIOS)
Had been using a Gainward 6800 Nvidia card but was having some stability probs, so I currently have a GeForce 4 Ti-4400 until I get the new card. This hasn't made a difference in the pause. It has happened under 3 different cards.
Mushkin Dual Pack 2x512 PC3200
1 SATA Raptor Drive
2 ATA Drives

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

It might be the Windows Indexing Service scanning your hard drives. I'd check your Windows services and turn on/off services you don't need.

could be the windows indexing service, could be an irq conflict with the video card and sound (i had this once and it was a bitch to troubleshoot), could be anti-virus scanning (if you do indeed have anti-virus). if i were you i would keep task manager open (assuming you are running windows xp or 2k) and see if anything spikes in cpu usage right about the time you get the freezes. good luck!

I had the same issue with a DFI LanParty Kt400-based board, audio "stopping"/"freezing" every now and then. I tried everything- differnet sound cards, reinstalling Windows, nothing cured it.

In the end, I returned the board :)

OK guys, I have tried several things, but still have the problem. I am unsure as to what to do in the Indexing Service. Any more specific help with the Indexing Service would be greatly appreciated. Could the problem be the fact that I am running 2 ATA drives along with the SATA drive? My brother had a similar problem with his SATA board, and was unable to run more than one ATA drive with his SATA drive. Thanks again for all the help.
