And when certain historical facts are ignored (IE genocides), people are unfortunately going to overlook look them when actions are repeated.

But somehow i feel most ppl i know cry like babies over this. I mean its happened a long time ago and many of my armenian friends believe that it is their right that the US govt should issue them a holiday for the suffering caused and that it should be recognised. I feel they should grow up and stop whining about "Look at me look at me.. i am so hurt because the turkish people came and killed everyone in my country". What i dont understand is that there was genocides elsewhere at this time, the ottoman empire was not the only one. We dont see other ethnic groups raising hell over an issue.

Come April 24th all of a sudden these so called armenian guys and girls become so patriotic to their cause, next day they are bad mouthing their armenian brothers. I do not understand it.. why push it up our nose and say its their right to be recognised and then next day bad mouth their own ppl.

What more i feel they really havent grown up over things. History has taught us a lot but it has also taught us to move on. When a student cannot deal with "european" history and complains that the professor isnt compassionate towards her cause (or her being armenian) and then complains to the dean.. then the line has been crossed. Mind you this is the same group who wouldnt mind badmouthing their own ppl but like a cynic cant take criticism.

You see, armenian's generally mean ppl from armenian, however there is a class distintion between the armenians. Like if your an russian armenian or true blooded armenian from armenia, you are looked upon different from the so called "polished" persian armenian.

Thus the battle between the two groups. I have know girls who wont date russian armenian boys but will do of "their kind". On one hand they claim genocide, on the other they are causing hatred within the ethinic group. There are russian guys who would love to get their hands on the persian / armenian girls and if lucky they will. However thier own ethnic group women might shy them just because of their "behavior".

I find it hard to believe that these people can geniunely aim for the cause. The new generation has no idea what it stands for, the old generation is intouch, it affected them, but the newly immigrated group has some amount of heritage in them but most of it is washed away the day later.

I got to go finish laundry and i dont want to make it a flame fest..

I understand system of a down's ideology, but frankly holding a concert isnt going to do jack until the mentalitiy of the ppl change. There is no use holding a grudge against the turkish ppl 200 years from now .. grow up.

its not about holding a grudge.
Its about recognition. Around the world the haulocaust (sp?) is taught in history books. All governments of the world acknowledged that it happenned, and the Germans appologized.
But the Armenian Genocide (and many others that deserve the same recognition) does not recieve the same recognition. 1.5 Million people were killed becuase the Ottomans decided to get nationalistic. Before the genocide there were only Russian Armenians, Iranian Armenians, and Armenia-Armenians (for the most part). But following those years of 1915-1923, we now have Armenians from Iraq, Kuwait, Israel, Syria, Jordan, America, and many European countries. I won't attribute every single one of these to the Genocide, but Armenians are now spread all over the world because they were kicked out of their home. Not even the Jews were killed within their native land. Now you tell me not to b!tch, but Turkey and the US hand in hand ignore that the genocide ever happenned. No history books have more than a couple lines on the subject, and more and more people never find out it happenned. It doesn't matter how Armenians act with one another, and perhaps your right, we should have more than just our protests on April 24, but the fact remains that this is a struggle for recognizing that 1.5 million people were killed because a govt in 1915 wished it!

What does this have to do with genocide recognition? The point of this thread and the aim of the event being discussed is to educate people and help to make sure that these atrocities aren't repeated. This should be a cause that not only all Armenians, but all people should come together to support, whether they have animosity between them or not. Therefore, I don?t see the point you?re trying to make when you point out that there is tension between Armenians from different parts of the world. By your logic, Americans coming together to mourn the events of 9/11 are somehow wrong because they have differences amongst themselves. I feel that you should grow up and stop whining about people trying to bring recognition to events that caused the suffering and deaths of millions of people and have the potential to occur again.

I am Turkish and I don't get the big deal. Back home, Turks, Armenians, and even Kurts live together happily. Down here in U.S., all these political leaders, bands, and some others try to make a big deal out of this. I love all my Armenian and Kurdish friends with all my heart, but all this is creating is hate between younger generations of these ethnicities. Let people live along.

I don't blame the Armenians in Turkey for not saying anything...
And I assure you, I am NOT trying to create any animosity.

But imagine if your grandparents were killed or forced out of the country they live in, in the name of nationalism, and the people that did this are not admitting or apologizing.

It's not that big of an issue for you personally, cuz you already have a life set up, and are happy, but wouldn't the fact that the American governemt or the perpatrators of this act not admitting to anything not bother you enough for you to raise your voice?
