System not shutting down.. need to format?

Installed an Abit NF7-S to replace my Epox 8RDA+ ... since they were boards that used the same chipset, I figured it would buy me time so I could buy a new video card before I format and re-install WinXP. But since installing this board, I haven't been able to shut down the system properly. It just reboots itself when I try to shutdown within XP.
Could this be because I haven't re-installed XP yet or could it be a hardware issue? I know I couldn't shutdown when I had an Intel modem installed.

the power options in XP? They're the same settings I used previously.
Didn't really see an option for it in the BIOS

So you use any audio sounds when shutting down? Sometimes a sound file which has become corrupted will cause this.

I would definitely reinstall... If it's the exact motherboard then it would be a bit more acceptable, you could most likely point your problems to that..

@Bleep : thanks for the suggestion.. that wasn't the problem though.

@bjc112 : Yup.. I'm gonna assume thats the case for now.. although I'd really like to wait until I get a new video card before I do that since I'm mostly likely going to get an ATI card to replace my fried GF3.

That's no biggie, just run DriverCleaner, or something like Detonator Destroyer and you are set to go...

Might as well get your system setup how you like it and will want it ..

heh.. I wish but I can't even do that. I'm using a Voodoo3 2000 PCI card in place of the GF3 at the moment... unless DriverCleaner works with customized 3dfx drivers lol
