system not posting

i put together a computer with the following:

Athlon XP 2500+ barton
256mb PC2700
PC CHIPS K7 M848A mobo

for some reason the system isnt posting, i believe its because theres no power going to the CPU...there isnt that square 4-pin power connector on the mobo that normally gives the cpu power...what am i doing wrong here? i've read the mobo manual twice... some advice please?

The MB manual just says plug the PSU into ATX1 in the upper right hand corner of the MB. You might try it outside the case first with just one stick of ram and GPU.

Isn't that a Socket A CPU?

I believe they used the older PSU connector and didn't have the 4pin - at least none of my Socket A Systems don't (4pin).

What magnus said. And then, connect your power switch to Panel1 on the motherboard.

Yeah, this is precisely what im doing...i have the PSU plugged into ATX1, the power switch to Panel1, the cpu/hsf, 1 stick ram, and gpu all connected outside the case...
