System Lockup during 3D Games :( *UPDATE*

Hey guys, i got a problem.

I just bought myself a g4 ti4200, and whenever i run a game it freezes almost instantly, a hard lockup with no mouse/keyboard response. It did the same with my old video card, but not as often.

Sometimes when i boot up, i get a bad_pool_caller stop message.. I currently have 2 operation systems, both of them lockup. When i try to load unreal tournament with direct 3d in windows 2000, its okay, but when i change resolutions in the game, it doesnt change, but locks up instead. same for windows 98. If i run it in software mode i have no problems though!

I came of with this:
It could be, my memory, or hard drive.
In the event view in windows 2000 i get plently of errors indicating this: "The Driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0."
and
"The Driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1."

I have an Amd Duron 600 mhz
256 meg stick of ram, forget what make
g4 ti 4200
sb live value(when removed same error occurs)
maxtor 40 gb hd
western digital 5 gig (primary)
350 watt ps
System temp is normal, cpu temp too.. power is aight

Need any more info please ask

Thanks in advance,
Carl

Generally that is a Hard drive/IDE controller Problem. Have you run chkdsk /f /r at a DOS prompt to find/repair HD errors ?

Or maybe the new video card has conflicting resources with your IDE controller. Might want to check device manager.

from my exp if the problem came from hardware it could be your temp too hot but u said u'r system temp normal. check your harddisk temp, my friend have a problem with his windows and found that his hd too hot and combine with his vga card make the cpu inside like in hell. If this solution can't solve check your mem. Find another mem and test it with your mb. If everything runs fine looks like the problem came from your software. Try to install clean windows and install minimum support software and try your game. hope it's work

I have 2 different operating systems, windows 98 se and windows 2k. They both Lockup, so its not a software problem, almost 100% sure. Theres no conflicting devices.

What exactly does "chkdsk /f /r" do? lol.

Ive never used chkdsk in my life, astonishing, eh?
anywho, thanks a lot

I just changed the RAM, it was VERY slow
( the whole comp. with 64 DEC megs ram), and told me there was not enough system resources to load the users profile or soemthing, probably the page file settings, but, unreal tournament changed the resolution,,, i put the old 256 mem. Back, it was fast, but when changing resolutions, it took more then 5 mins, but it did it.

this is weird!

Help please!

any comments will help me
Thanks!
Carl

this is the exact stop message i get: (unless i did a typo or something lol)
STOP: 0x000000C2, 0X00000B68, 0XE1484280, 0XE1484288 BAD_POOL_CALLER

Hope this helps

Dont remember exactly :S I havent touched my desktop computer in like, a year lol, been using my laptop.

abit.... dont remember.. kt-7?

Sorry if that aint it, i dont have access to my comp right now, and i dont remember exactly, but im pretty sure thats it.

i had the same error with the old card..

With a new 64 meg chip, i can do everything normally, but a LOT slower, and in win 98 it freezes(hard freeze) and the sound stays on(at the same place it was when it froze, like a continuous beeping or what ever, freeky)

So im guessing its the hard drive now.

Im going to get some tests from the manu. site to see if its that, if not, im going to need your help to figure this out.

thanks ill try that out and give you some news in a few days. I just formatted the hard drive, and removed the 5 giger, hopefully all of this together has fixed the problem. Thanks a lot!!
Carl

I just formated and installed nothing but windows 98 SE, I took my 256 meg ram chip and also my 5 gig hard drive, while playing nfs 5, the computer froze (hard) and the sound that was playing was repeating over and over.

So its not the ram, or the hard drive, Might be the maxtor, but its like brand new, i just got it rma'd :frown:

Any Suggestions?

This is starting to sound like when I had a Bad Motherboard that "worked" but alway's locked up and got BSOD's. It was a Abit Mobo.

alright, i guess it wouldnt hurt to get rid of this old junk.

What should i get, MB and CPU... id like to spend no more then 500 can.

Thanks for your replies
