System Locks Up

Hey guys,

Just finished building my system today. Specs are:

Antec P180 case (3 120mm fans)
Athlon 64 Venice 3000+ (not OC'ed)
eVGA SLI Motherboard
eVGA 7800GTX
1GB Corsair (512MB x 2)
Apple 30" LCD.

The system runs a bit hot, between 40-47 degress idling, but is stable in Windows. But, as SOON as I open FarCry and it gets to the main menu, it locks up. A unpleasant sound comes from my speakers as well.

I'm thinking overheating, but all my fans are set to high, and I do think there are enough to cool the system. I used AC5 for the CPU, but I am using the stock HSF. The room is hot, around 80, but still, locking up right away? That seems strange.

I'm running SP2, and all the latest drivers from Nvidia's website.

EDIT: Forgot to mention its running a Antec 430W TruePower 2.0, so I don't think its the PSU.

Edit: Problem has been FIXED. Turns out you need to put the second DIMM of RAM in DIMM 3 and not DIMM 2 for it to work. 2560x1600 Far Cry with everything maxed out now works 😀.

Lock-ups are most always cooling/voltage issues. First check your cooling, as your temps appear on the high side even when idling. Your CPU cooler may be seated improperly, or you may not have enough case flow to keep things cool and comfortable.

See thats the problem, I don't know what to do, I've already tried reseating the CPU, with no luck, and the case is pretty much wide open with airflow.

I just played about 15 minutes of BF2 with no issues, so I'm leaning toward the fact that there is something wrong with FarCry. I'm gonna DL 3DMark to see if it locks up there.

The system just randomlly rebooted, and now tries to load Windows, but doesn't succeed. It stays on the Windows splash screen with the little progress bar continuouslly moving. Safe Mode, which I am using now, works, but Last Known Configuration does not.

Mornin' loving bump 🙂.

Left the computer all night running AIM, and it rebooted overnight and went back into Windows.

I know I keep bumping this, but its really urgent to me. Anyways, I uninstalled the nVidia video drivers I had and installed 77.72 drivers, and that had no effect. BF2 locked up about 10 minutes into playing, but in the BIOS once I restarted, the temps were only at 47. After leaving the computer for a couple hours, the CPU was at 39 at my return. When using normal, installing stuff, surfing net, it goes as high as 45, but usually 43. I don't really get what is happeening.

I should mention that becusae of the length of the 7800GTX, most of the northbridge fan is covered, but I don't know if this would have this effect.
