System issues after upgrade

Hi,

I recently upgraded my system to the following:

- Asus P5Q
- Intel E8500
- 4GB Corsair XMS2 Memory
- Asus ATi Radeon HD3450 - 256MB - PCI-E

I decided to use my 'old' (2.5 - 3 years) PSU (a 450W Antec that came with my Sonata II case), as I believed it had sufficient power to run the new system (according to online power calculators, at least). The system starts fine, but I have the following issues:

1. My keyboard is randomly inserting 2, 4, 6, and 8 when using the arrow keys (see my other thread)

2. My computer reboots at random times (although it seems to occur most often when the system is under load, i.e. heavy CPU/GPU usage).

3. Sometimes (it seems to happen on startup), there are 'drawing' issues on screen, like red patterns in various places. It goes away after a while.

The temps are fine.

At first I was thinking a motherboard issue, but I'm wondering now if it isn't related to the PSU, since in the case of the reboot problem, it only appears happen under load. Having said that, I'm not sure that the PSU could be causing the first problem (with the keyboard).

Any advice? If you think it's the PSU, please let me know which model you'd suggest as a replacement.

Thanks,

D.

Have you tried to go to start|run|cmd|enter and go to a DOS prompt and than tried your keyboard arrow keys. If they do not give you numbers in the dark DOS screen than it is a windows issue and not a hardware issue.

For your radom reboots it could be the PSU but also check your memory. Try reseating them in there slots. Also try to do a reset to defaults in your BIOS. Clear your CMOS and even try to update to the latest BIOS for your board.

Graphic cards drivers have been known to play havoc on systems. Update your video drivers too.

Just tried it, and it happens there as well (doesn't the command prompt use Windows drivers when running under Windows?)

I did about 5 or 6 memtest86+ passes. I've tried clearing CMOS (see the keyboard issue thread) with no luck. There are no changes in the BIOS changelog for my board that are relevant to the issues I am experiencing.

Downloading the latest driver now.

Thanks.
