I have an me system that on bootup says cannot find system ini and to put in startupdisk and type scanreg /restore..but when i do it says bad command. when i run fdisc it only sees 1 partition and its not a dos one. this system has 2 harddrives(c and d) that are seen on post. it was running fine....not sure how to tackle this, any help would be welcome. 🙁

Let me get this straight: You can boot off the C: drive but when you run FDISK it only finds a non-DOS partition? That makes no sense.

If you can boot it, there's an active DOS partition there. If you boot off a floppy can you access C: and see any files there?

The scanreg error indicates that scanreg.exe isn't on that floppy. If you made the WinMe startup diskettes, there should be a second one with utilities on it.

If you have some antivirus software, run it and see if a virus has infected the system.

Edit: The default location for scanreg.exe on the hard drive is C:\Windows\Command, so if you can boot from a floppy and navigate there you could be able to run it from that location.
