I've been having these power issues and it just seems to get worse by the day.
sometimes when i turn on my computer, it powers on with the fans spining, the lights for power comes on, but it doesn't really come on, and sometimes shuts itself off after a moment. what i mean by it doesn't come on is that, the monitor stays off, and the HDD doesn't spin (i hear a higher pitch whine when it does turn on)
now, here's an interesting fact i found. I can look at the lights on my router to fortell if the computer will truely come on or not. the NIC is connected to my router which is right next to my computer, and if the computer is off, that port on the router will show no lights, and when the computer is on and working the leds on the routers will stay on. if the computer gets turned on, and the lights on the router for my NIC's particular port doesn't stay on and flashes on and turns off instead, then I know the computer won't come on.
its almost like the computer has a false power on state. and I need to turn it on and off, press the reset button serveral times, and go sacrifice a virgin then come back and try it serveral times, and IF i am lucky it'll work.
i have tried unplugging some unnecessary fans and see if that frees up some juice, but it doesn't make a difference. i've tried taking the nic out and let it boot, and no difference, i rearranged the cards in different slots no change. my co-worker tells me he has the same problem, and it is XP's ACPI thing screwing it up, and the only way to fix it is by reinstalling and choice NO ACPI option. I talk to my other friends and they have similiar problem sometimes, but for them it always seem to work after turning it off and back on again.
now, here are some stats from my bios menu, hopefully it'll mean something. btw, the computer is overclocked.
Vcore 1.84 ~1.87
VIO 3.53~3.55
+5V 4.97~4.94
+12V 12.46~12.52
AGP 1.53
DDR 2.83
5VSB 5.13
VBAT 3.12
help appreciated.
