just to get you started maybe try downloading the latest version of IE 5.5 or 5.01 SP1 take your pick (if it isn't a big deal to you to download this or get a copy from someone)

Do you have programs running in the background? Virus scanner? (if so disable an see if it happens)

from the way you talk does this happen all/every (edit) of the time? or just now and again?

really right now i would update to one of the latest versions just to have that and then if the problem still persists then come back
(it should be nice to know you are running the latest version anyways.)

what do you use the computer for?
do you use intensive programs like photoshop?

if you have the cash i'd go w/ the 256MB (right now i am running 192MB and i notice a diff then again i run like 6 progs at a time -- u get a few IE windows open and u are there)

oh by they way are you just sitting here hitting the refresh button?

(oh another idea on getting it not to make that pause go up to tools>internet options>content tab>auto complete>uncheck them all and see if that fixes it)

oh cool thanks but i am not on here enough to be elite altho i tried to oust virge j/k ;)
but i'll get you past your Junior ship yet (only 9 more to go)
if you get a chance tho download the latest version and re-enable it and see if you don't have the problem anymore
a minor feature gotten rid of for the sake of getting things done faster altho the feature is supposed to help you out oh well
good to see you have things straightened out now
