System Hanging on Boot

Running WinXP on an AMD XP 1600+, 512MB, 40GB HD, Shuttle AK31a rev 3.1

I had been having problems with the rig (just built it a month or so ago) on boot. It would hang loading the desktop and often spontaneously reboot on getting to the desktop. On top of that, the Front Bezel power and reset LEDs don't light (they sure look to be hooked up right), and sometimes it won't power down fully when shutting down.

Now, I had chalked all of this up to my 300W Enlight as not being powerful enough to run the system. So I bought a 400W Sparkle and installed it yesterday. Now, the spontaneous reboot is gone, but everything else remains. I jumped into my wife's profile to see how it went, and she did not hang, so it makes me wonder if there's something in the system tray that could be hanging. Would SETI@Home do this? It seems to me that a 1.4Ghz proc should be able to load a system tray program quicker than that. And then again, my other problems haven't gone away.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you're wife's profile works fine, then it's 99.9% sure a software issue in your profile; you'll want to make sure you have -all- the windows updates (compatibility, security, service pack, etc), and then try disabling all your startup programs until it works. You can boot into safe mode (hold CTRL at boot, just in case :)) if you need to...
