System halting during CD-burning read

My computer has been crashing during the read phase of burning a CD. I have a Plextor 8/4/32 burner. I tried using various burning saftware, and it still crashed. I it simple freezes with the harddrive light on. Is this a problem with my Hard drive? I have A moxator 20Gig 7200rpm drive that I bought over the summer. I have burned CD's with it before. The computer will occasionally freeze out of the blue. Could it be a Memory problem? Can anyone help me??
