Ok. A couple months back I had this problem with Windows Xp saying that it experienced a page_fault while loading Windows. So I posted a message here stating the problem. It was suggested that I had a Ram problem and that I run Memtest to look for errors. And running Memtest showed that there were errors on my RAM.
So I returned the RAM to Crucial for my warranty and 6 weeks later I get a stick of RAM in the mail. Problem solved Right? Wrong!
I did a fresh install of XP on the system and start to install drivers for my vid card, sound card and such. About two hours into the process my computer shuts off. So I try and restart it and see if it was a driver problem or something with Windows. The problem is now it won't even POST. My mobo manual says that the error means that the RAM is bad, or that the settings in the BIOS are wrong and they should be flashed.
So I slap in my buddies stick of 512mb DDR non-ECC RAM, which boots my computer to Windows fine btw, flash the bios, and then put my stick of RAM back into the system and reboot. The system boots into Windows and about 15 minutes later it shuts down on its own.
Rebooting shows the same POST error as before, but this time it has a mind of its own and it turns on by itself every once and a while beeping with the POST error.
So, to me this sounds like could be one of three things, the RAM (again), the mobo, or the power supply.
So contact Crucial Technical Support and state my problem. They say that the problem was not with the RAM and is with something else in my system... but dont explain why the non-ECC RAM works.
Any Ideas? I'm gonna check the P/S and see if it was that .. but probably not .. I'll update the post if it is.
