I'm running an ECS K7S5A w/ an XP1600, windows 98.
I'm having a problem after installing a new video card and new CD writer. (replaced old ones).
The new card is an ATI AIW-7500.
The problem, I have is that when I leave the system alone for a while and return, the system is in standby mode (black screen, disk powered down). Normaly, moving the mouse and/or hitting a key will wake it up. Now, all that happens is the cursor comes up, but the rest of the screen stays black. After entering a few keystrokes, the system beeps (lock up) and the cursor freezes (oh, and I can see the hard drive flicker a couple of times). At this point I can usually control-al-del to reboot (a few times, I had to actually press the reset button).
I did not have this problem before the upgrade.
I tried to turn off standby (windows 98 power management) but it still seems to go into stanby mode anyway. I have not tried to turn it off in the bios. I would prefer to have the standby working.
I looked at the bios updates on the ECS site, but didn't see anything that looked related to this problem.
I did have some trouble initially installing the tuner portion of the card, but that was corrected by using new ATI drivers from their site. I also tried installing the latest windows 98 updates as well as directX 8.1b
anyone have any ideas ?
