hi everyone,

my computer runs fine during gaming and also passed super pi, prime95, and memtest. strange thing is when i leave the computer for a while and come back the system freezes. the hard drive led stays lit up. the monitor goes to pitch black during power save mode and i can not get out of it by moving the mouse or pressing the keyboard. i actually have to manually hit the reset button to reset the system. what is causing this?

thanks:)

Have you carefully checked all of your BIOS settings, especially those related to power savings, etc. ??

thanks for your replies. i turned off the computer, unplugged the power cord, reset the bios via the jumper (took battery out too). now, when i power the pc back up, i get a long beep followed by short beeps. i took off the side panel and looked inside to see what was going on. i noticed my bfg 6800 gt's fan would not spin and the red led power light would not come on. everything else powered up just fine (fans, hard drive, dvd drive, etc.). was my video card causing the freeze up? now, it seems like i can't get my video card to power up.

sounds like your powerplug in your videocard might have been unplugged.

okay, i do have the the six pin power aux connector plugged into the video card

six pin aux connector

i also have the 4 pin molex plugged into the motherboard (ez plug)

EZ Plug (upper left hand corner)

i tested the power supply with a multimeter as well as with a power supply tester and everything check out fine. could it be that the video card is giving out?

try reseating the card itself

okay, i tried that but the video card doesn't seem to want to power up. i decided to RMA the video card. hopefully it's not a bad pci express slot. unfortunately, i don't have another system to test the video card in.
