System Freezes - Why?

Here's the system:

Abit KT7 RAID
Duron 700 retail
128 meg Crucial RAM CAS 2
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
SB Live Value
Toshiba DVD S1402
Maxtor 40 plus - 15gig
Windows ME

Here is what is happenning:

The system is freezing. Not constantly, but enough to notice. The pattern seems pretty random, but always when the HD is in use.

I have Scan Disked, Defraged, Refomatted, screwed with the BIOS settings, updated all the drivers. Same problem.

I ran Maxtor's HD utilities and it showed nothing wrong with the drive.

Any ideas?

Well...try swapping some stuff out if you can.

Try swapping RAM/CPU, see if that fixes things.

It's kinda hard to determine what the problem is with only this amount of information, give more if you could.

Try disabling system restore first. Then do a control alt del and see which programs are loaded. Take a look using Sisoft Sandra or system information to scrutinise your system resources and see whether there're any potential conflicts there. You did enable DMA for the harddisk right?
