System freezes when I plug in both Geforce card and A3DXstream soundcard.

I recently purchased a Creative Labs Annihilator 2MX with 32mb DDR ram. I plugged it in and booted up to setup the card and everything went fine installing drivers, but when I rebooted upon making the startup sound in windows the system crashed. I pulled out all the PCI cards and just plugged in the Video card and it booted up fine, so then I tried putting in the soundcard next and when it got to windows it froze...so then I formatted and reinstalled windows with the Vidcard only plugged in and when that was done I setup the sound card and rebooted...booted up to windows and once again, crash at the startup sound. I have all the latest drivers for my A3DXstream and the latest ones for the Geforce yet this keeps on happening. Currently I have to use the onboard soundcard (which sucks really bad as you all may already know) in order to use my system. I have a Soyo 7vca motherboard with 256mb ram and a 566FCPGA, ata100 controller card, 300watt ps, 10/100 ethernet card. I am hoping it's just the vidcard so I can return it or something. PLZ help if you can. thx

I will assume that your video card is an AGP card. May I ask which PCI slot you used for your audio card? On many (or all?) motherboards, the AGP slot shares its IRQ with the PCI slot nearest the AGP slot. If you used this slot for your audio card, it may conflict with the video card. Try moving the audio card into a different slot, if the above applies to your situation.

p.s. Which version Windows are you using?

I am using Windows Millenium. I don't know if it's plugged up that high but I will try another PCI slot for the soundcard and yes, it's an AGP video card. Thx for the help though, I should have thought of that, I will let you know if it works or not when I plug it in a different slot.

Well I just tried putting it in two other PCI slots and the card still freezes up the comp. It might be drivers or WindowsME, but if that's the case I should just get a new sound card anyways. This card was made in 1999 or so and the only reason I wanted to keep it was because it had A3D support, but I will just purchase a Vortex 2 if I have to revert my version of windows just to get it to work. However, if you have any ideas I will try them out before I get the new soundcard. It's going to be a while till then anyways.

Aureal isn't even in business anymore, they got bought out by Creative I believe. Vortex 2 cards aren't really supported anymore. You might as well get a soundblaster.

Yes but I get Vortex because of A3D. it sounds way better than EAX soundcards which are mostly soundblasters. I did hear that Vortex supports A3D and EAX. is it the same for soundblaster? if so then I might get one.

Well I finally got contacted by Techsupport over at Turtle Beach and they told me that new motherboards support pci 2.2 and the A3DXstream only supports 2.0-2.1 and since A3D went out of business they can no longer provide any updates for the card so they suggested I purchase a new Santa Cruz card. So I think I will go out and buy me a Creative Labs soundcard, anyone have any suggestions? prices too please.
