Not sure what is causing this? I have a Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe board, Nvidia 6800 GT card, Pentium 4 3.2 , 2 gigs of ram (specified for this mb), and a Audigy 2 ZS card. If I use my Audigy card it freezes more often than when I use the on board sound. I have checked temps for the MB , processor and video card and all are running at normal temps. It only freezes when playing games, nothing else? Drivers are all up to date, I have reloaded the OS (XP Pro) several times with no luck? I have tried the Audigy in different PCI slots, loaded only windows and the updates, nothing seems to work! Hoping soem one can suggest something! Help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Thanks!!

Jason

Slikkster: I thought that was the issue as well at first but the fact that I get the same issue using my on board sound should rule that out. I called a local tech shop around here and a guy told me it was because the model of my MB (socket 478) was not powerful enough to run high end games? I can't imagine this to be true. Still researching. Thanks for the suggestion!

When you're running the Audigy and/or onboard sound, do you have the other one disabled AND have no drivers/software for the non-running soundcard disabled? This is important, so let's hear the real scoop.

Specifically, if you're running the Audigy as your sound card, do you:

A: Disable the onboard sound in the bios?

AND

B: Prevent its drivers and software from running?

Same questions for when you're running the onboard sound vs. the Audigy. Is the Audigy disabled in Device Manager (not likely)? Is/are any Audigy software/drivers still running even when the onboard sound is being used?

It's important that you answer this honestly.

I have tried each. I have completely uninstalled the onboard sound drivers and disabled it in the bios and ran just the Audigy with no luck. I have also taken the Audigy out of my machine unistalled all the software (drivers) and ran just the onboard sound with no luck either.
The only thing I can think of is that it may be my MB or video card seeing that the sound issue happens no matter what I try with either sound devices? Any thoughts? And thanks!

Are you seeing any errors in your Event Viewer? Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer.

Look at both Application and System Logs.

I checked the event viewer and there wasn't anything specific showing at the time it froze. There was one item stopping but it wasn't around the times my PC froze. I have even reinstalled Windows and loaded only the updates and basic drivers, again trying the Audigy alone then the onboard sound with no luck either. Man I am stumped! It just doesnt make sense as to why this is happening. Thanks for all the help!
