System Freeze

After some period of inactivity, the screen goes gray and I have to do control-alt-delete. I figure something was up with the screen saver.

But, when I go to control panel -> display -> screen saver, the computer freezes.

I tried reinstalling the OS (Win 98 SE), but I still have the problem.

Any suggestions?
 
It probably is a screensaver problem. What screensaver are you using, what video card, and what drivers? Here's some quickie-common ones I've had to deal with...

OpenGL (ALL of them) screensavers and Permedia2's on EARLY drivers or Permedia3's on EARLY drivers, Voodoo3 systems (occasional), Oxygen VX1, #9 Revolution III (NOT IV), Revolution IV w/first-released BETA OGL drivers installed.
SciFi/Sixties (globe rendering) and same cards as above plus GeForce2 MX Dualhead w/12.41 drivers or LeadTek/WinFast drivers (unknown version).
