System Failed CPU Test!

I've removed the heatsink & removed the factory thermal paste after the error.

Checked the heatsink & cleaned off the CPU, applied Artic Silver 5 & put it all back together.

Same error!

Arrrrgghh.

Any insight before I have to call tech support?

Or send her back. 🙁

Problem fixed!

There's a four (4) pin ATX 12v. connector near the CPU that needs to be hooked up to the psu as well as hooking up the regular ATX power connector by the IDE Banks.

Running great now!!!
 
I am still failing cpu test with this combo. I have only the board hoooked up to the psu with nothing else. This has happned on 2 boards so far.
 
You'll need CPU, memory, video at the bare minimum (and PSU of course). If you need more help, post a complete spec list, including brand and model of the power supply and the RAM.
 
a computer requires memory present to operate or process. i think you need the memory present for it to work properly.

^ what he said 🙂 If you need to pick up some RAM that's guaranteed compatible, try Crucial.com's memory configurator and pick your specific board. Their memory is consistently good quality and if you picked it using their configurator, it's guaranteed to work (although for PC3200 it is a good idea to manually set your motherboard's BIOS for a memory voltage of at least 2.6 volts, based on what I've seen).

Also make sure your power supply is a high-quality one, that really stacks the odds in your favor versus cheap-but-flashy ones or true generic ones. Fortron, PC Power & Cooling, Antec and Enermax are some PSU brands that people get good results with. Hope that helps, and check the bottom link in my signature for more stuff that might be helpful to know 🙂 The Resources page has some security stuff to know about and links to free antivirus and firewall software. I'm about to do a slight revision of that page, so check again in a little while if you're on right now.
 
Okay. I was was just testing the cpu, because I kept getting failed cpu test. I pulled it out of the box and put it on the anti static bag, and only connected the psu to the mobo w/ cpu. It finally passed the cpu test and gave me mem failure. I put the mem in and passed that test, then put the mobo in my box and added the VC and sound card. Connected all the cables to drives and such and am now posting. Sorry if I wasnt clear earlier. So, you can power up the mobo with out memory to test the cpu.

Pretty nice rig 🙂 As for the 137GB thing, you might be able to install WinXP, then update to Service Pack 2, and then change the drive to Dynamic Disk in Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and resize the dynamic volume out to the full 200GB... although since it's the boot volume, I have a suspicion that it won't let you. Otherwise I believe there are disk utilities that will do this (Partition Magic?). Or just make another partition.

You can make another partition and have it appear in the first partition as a folder, believe it or not, just create the partition and choose to mount it in an empty folder, then hit Browse and you can even create the folder right there. This is all in Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management, looks something like this.
 
I dealt with that "cpu failed test" by disconnecting the voice reporter (jumpers on mainboard), and never buying asus again. It can mean a memory problem, low voltage reading from the power supply, and who knows what else. Sometimes, it may even disappear when asus probe takes over after windows loads, as the readings could change. It's a flaky feature that should have never been used by asus.
