Hi, I have a gigabyte p55ud3l motherboard and an i5 processor. This is a system that used to work that I have carried with me. When I reassembled it my motherboard does not seem to detect my keyboard because of which I'm unable to enter the bios. I've tried 2 different usb keyboards that seem to work fine otherwise.

Disconnect the PSU power cord from the wall outlet, hold down the case power button for 15 seconds, then remove the CMOS battery for 3 minutes. Button it back up and see if your keyboard works.

Get a PS2 keyboard. If the BIOS has the USB ports off, it will never find one.

hi, thanks for the quick response. I followed those steps twice, but both times it did not work :(.
Each time after I restarted the system it would boot into a menu saying that a post error had occurred and asked me to choose between 4 options, the first was default and the remaining were of the form
1) last successful profile
2) last successful profile
etc and option 1 would be selected.
since my keyboard doesnt appear to be detected, I couldnt play around with the options.
A timer would expire and it would reboot .. but now it was back to square 1.

ok so I solved my problem. I had to get a ps2 keyboard and then flash my bios before it started accepting my usb keyboard *shrug*. Strangely I was able to use a usb stick to flash my bios, so it wasnt that I couldnt use usb. thanks everyone.
