10 minutes ago we had a blackout in my neighberhood for 5 minutes. As you can guess I have no UPS, and my PC was open. I opened it after the blackout and it seems normal. Is there any chance that it has been damaged, espeially the hard disc? Do HD's have any protection for this kind of situation? I have the IBM 60GXP.

Thanks in advance

surge protects are big resistors between your outlet and whatever is plugged into it...

in case there's a surge of electricity coming through the outlet, the surge protector dampens it so it doesn't damage whatever is plugged into the outlet (surge protector plugs into the outlet, computer/whatever plugs into the surge protector)

most decent powerbars have built in surge protectors.

safe to say your comp is fine...like my hair (soon)...damnit.

thanks dad!
