I have a finely tweaked 2K install and need (don't ask why) to put Win98 on the same box. Is System Commander my only option to avoid uninstalling 2K, installing 98 and then adding 2K again?

depends...r u running win2k on ntfs partition on the c drive? if yes, then a boot manager is needed. If the file system is fat32, just install win98 using the "setup /ntldr" switch. or install win98 as usual and then use the win2k cd to repair the boot partition of win2k.

no sure if u can use pqmagic to convert the ntfs partition back to fat32 without hosing win2k...if u can, then u can do the above as well...

if u r running scsi with 2 separate drives, u can disconnect the win2k drive...boot to the second scsi drive and install win98 there. when u r done u will have two drives with active partitions. to choose which drive to boot from, go to scsi bios and select the proper scsi id.

Hecky,
Do you have a CDRW?
If so, Burn a system CD(set) of your W2k partition install.
If you loose it, in 10 minutes and you have it back.
I reinstalled a W2k partition 2x Friday just to see of any differences in applications. That takes me 10minutes each.

Another option is to clone your W2K partition to another empty partition by using your W98 emergency disk and something like clone13 used for cloning o/s's or xxcopy clone command. Of course, both must be run from outside of W2k. Then install W98 on C:
PM me if you need to any utilities. I may have a floppy program that may work to move partitions around.

edit: Need4speed has some good suggestions that I didn't consider.

yes u can. but its much safer to install to separate partitions since both OS setup common folders like Program Files etc. Its best to keep them separated.

Hey thanks guys, regret dropping sync...I was on my way home. All good ideas and I'll let you know what works. As I already have it in house I may go the SysCommander route as I know that's foolproof. I like the idea of burning a copy of the install. The CD-RW is on another machine, but I can just copy the WINNT folder and burn it.
