My system clock has been losing time for quite some time ... but I knew my CMOS battery was dying and that would fix the problem ... but I finally went out and replaced my CMOS which fixed some of the problems I was having but my system clock still loses 3mins every 24 hrs . Any ideas?

Maybe your RTC is not working correctly... (RTC = real time clock) If after trying to set the BIOS like cholley said, it's still not working, try a good old 2000 card. I mean by 2000 card the card that they sold when year 2000 was coming and that made your computer compatible with year 2k....

how about you try replacing the internal battery (looks like an oversize watch battery)

LOL CMOS battery = the "oversized watch battery" at any rate, is it losing time in bios as well? if not, try installing windows over top of the current install? are you sure you got a compatible battery (are they proprietary?) and are you sure the clip is cliping down on it?

Did you upgrade to Windows XP recently? May sound like a very strange question, but there's a problem that only appears on some systems (no idea why it affects some and not others), where, if in the Date & Time Properties window (accessible in the Taskbar), you have it set to automatically synchronizer the time (Internet Time tab), the clock will actually lose time. No clue why. Uncheck it, reboot, and it seems to go away.

Hope this helps,
Shaun

i've heard that running an excessive number of programs in the background can cause this. luck - bodinski

Hey thanks all for the posts ... I did have the right battery but I didn't know that about XP. Thanks guptasa1 ... I'll have to try that. I had originally turned on the sync time 'cuz I knew my CMOS batt was dying but now that I replaced it I took out the check mark and hopefully it fixes the problem!
THANKS!
