Thanks, that makes sense. I know I've read something about some livecd's that are designed for system recovery. Would something like that do the trick?

Is there a way to use fdisk with the Windows XP Home Upgrade CD (I didn't see it in the recovery options)?

I think I can try and find a Windows 98 CD somewhere. I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to try and do a fresh install of Windows XP anyway (although if the problem is with the Linux partition being active, I guess that won't help).

I don't believe the windows xp recovery cd will work for switching the active partition... The only way I know of is with fdisk... Sorry, hope it helps.

OK, thanks, I'll try and find something like a Win98 CD (I'm sure it should be possible to find). In lieu of that, would anything like Norton SystemWorks do the trick here (or actually, if the Partition Magic CD is bootable, I think I can use that)?

I'm not sure. It might, but I've never tried. If the partition magic cd is bootable I would assume that that would work. Good luck!
