The second video card isn't for a SLI setup it's just another GPU consideration. I'm thinking I may not need to go that route.

After seeing this I think what I have listed minus the XFX GPU might just do the job.

Don't worry about SSD lifespan, other than being aware that it is finite.

Modern controllers do a lot of tricks to keep your SSD running for as long as possible. (Lowering Write Amplification.)

I did find with my OCZ Agility 30GB drive, when running BOINC (a distributed computing platform application), that I was writing nearly 1TB per month, due to all of the tasks I was running (hex-core plus two GPUs) were checkpointing their state to the HD every minute.

This would probably be considered excessive, and at least judging by the "SSDLife" app, my SSD was only at 74% health when I retired it, and the program was estimating that it would last under three years.

Now, the small size was also part of the problem. Bigger drives spread out the writes, giving you a longer lifespan.

I recommend a minimum size of an SSD (unless it is just for SRT caching) of 120GB. I currently have a 240GB Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe SSD, I got it for $239 at Newegg.

I run a similar system with an MSI 560Ti (which I also overclock) and I cannot run max settings in Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Crysis series and a few others I have played at one time or another. If you want healthy frame rates, no jutters, and an emmersive environment and if you If you really cannot go for the top card in Nvidia or ATI, do not go for a 200.00 card, unless you plan on adding another one just like it next week. :)

Also.. Corsair make a great PSU, but if I were you, I'd find a 650-750 watt rather than 500 watt, particularly if you are going to get a 7970 or a 680 video card. Systems running these top of the line cards will draw very close to 400 watts and certainly more if you plan on any overclocking of the CPU, GPU. Again, if you are going to get a 560Ti, then get a 650 to 750 watt PSU because you'll want dual 560's within a week. :) PSU's tend to have better current regulation and better efficiency pulling from 25% to 75% of their rating.

I do not make any money encouraging people to buy the best hardware they can afford. I have no affiliation or relationships with any suppliers or manufacturers...but really wish I did! What I do like is smooth gaming, at very high settings. And yes if it were in my budget I'd be getting another 560 Ti.

Cheers,

^ You might want to edit your first (original) thread post to not confuse people, example:

Edit (current considerations):
*Your build here*

Personally, you could go a 64 GB SSD, just for Windows and other non-games stuff like Internet Browsers because it'll make it very snappy in response times and load your games and saves on the Hard Drive to give you ease of mind.

Hello VirtualLary,

Thankyou for taking the time to reply to my post. Although I can't say I understood everything you posted I did my best to Google what I wasn't familure with. I had never heard of BOINC or SRT so I did a Google search and I'm a tad not so in the dark now.

SRT, Developed by Intel for their SSD drives to allow a HDD drive to use the SSD as cache.

In any case I was thrilled to learn something new. I'm pretty set on the Crucial m4 everywhere I researched seemed to give it good reviews. You suggested a 120 and it's a 128 so I guess I'm good to go there.

Thank you again for all your help and effort.

Have a great day.

Hey random2,

Good to see you again.....

What you said nailed it....."If you want healthy frame rates, no jutters, and an emmersive environment That's exactly what I want.

My question is now, what if any performance gains would I get from going 560 Ti x2 versus 1x 7990?

Price wise I'm only looking at $20 or so dollars difference.

I've decided to go with the Corsair AX750 hopefully that should be able to push anything I throw at. $169.99 at Newegg $149.99 after mail in rebate

I'm really getting excited, I'm starting to narrow dwn the field to the final build.....Yeeeeeeehaw!

Good Day CoDLolcopter,

Sorry if I caused any confusion wasn't intentional.

I'm hoping the Cruciial m4 128GB will do the job, if not I guess I can get another down the road.

Have a grea day.
