I'm having a problem with my new system build. I Got everything in and working except I can't seem to recall how to get the system to see the CDRom (IDE) when I boot from the boot disk - either that or something else is wrong.

I have the Harddrive set upon IDE 1 as master, it is recognized and formatted (blank). The CDRom is configured to be Master on IDE 2, but I don't see anything relating to CDRom when I boot in the system info, and in fact the details screen that comes up when I boot shows the Hard Drive on Channel 1 but nothing on Channel 2.

However, the CD Rom has power and is definitely plugged into channel 2.

Should it be showing up or am I just missing something on my boot disk? Is it ok to use an ATA-66 cable for it (I've tried both 66 and 33)?

You may have to go into the bios and enable the devices on the second IDE channel. In my experience with my Abit boards and the Award bios I had to go into Standar CMOS Features and select the Secondary Master option. In that setting you should see a setting IDE Sceondary Master with a either Auto, none, or the device. If it says "none" set it to auto and reboot. This should fix your problem.

Also make sure that your CD is enabled as the second boot option after floppy, or it will boot to your hardrive first and never make it to the cd to boot.

Besides all the Great advice before me, I always pick "Boot from hard disk" for some reason on my system this works, but it won't boot from the cdrom if that choice is picked.
