I've always wanted to build my own, but been afraid, My desktop just crasheed and burned. I think I'm ready to give this a go. So here goes....

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Video Editing from a Canon XL H1(HD) and Canon XL2(Standard Def)

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

800-900

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

United States

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

IntelHeard the i7 920 might be a good match for video editing.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Nada
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Searched this thread, i7 Build, Seems like it might be good for me, but not sure the case, video card, etc

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

default

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

next 2-3 weeks

Thank you all for the help. this is a big step for me so hopefully I can get it running.

It seems like most of the items people suggest are sold at newegg, is this the best place to acquire parts? Or would any B/M stores be good to look at ? Thanks for the quick feedback

Depends on the B&M store really. TigerDirect bought CompUSA, so all the CompUSA stores in Tampa have the same deals TigerDirect does, as rare as their deals are, it's nice to have. I usually buy from Newegg, Amazon, or ZipZoomFly, depending on price.

Use Froogle, it helps :)
