SYSTEM ACTING UP; NEED HELP

Secondary system was working fine, then just shut down and now I can't get it to boot. During boot process, gets to "verifying DMI pool", then I get one long, continuous beep. The cpu fan will slow down with the beep, then speed up. This goes in cycles about 3 seconds apart. Tried reseating the video card, adjust the memory around, nothing helps. Power supply continues to run during this so I don't think that is a problem. Here are system specs:

K62-500
FIC VA-503+ mobo
128 mb PC-100 ram (2x64mb)
ATI Expert 2000 agp video
Soundblaster 64
BTC 52x cd rom
10gb hdd
Win ME

One other thing - it's in a piece of crap case. When looking at the guts from the side, the mobo leans a little toward the front of the case. I can't get it to sit straight, so it's a little loose inside, not sitting real solid. Maybe that's the problem??

If the mobo isn't sitting straight, some of the things that could happen are: cards arent seated properly, especially when you screw them down to hold them in place; also the mobo could ground out if it hits the case because of problems with the standoffs/spacers.

Regarding the power supply: Just because its running is no indication that its working properly

The strangest thing is, this system has been running fine for about a year. Could this mobo problem be caused by it sitting this way for so long, even though there were no problems prior to this?

I'd have to guess: no. If the mobo isnt rocking to and fro, then its probably not touching anything. Cards can come out of their slots slowly with 'creep', however.

See if you can use some other power supply to test.

Don't have another one. I don't see how that can be the problem when it gets as far as it does. I've had ps's go bad before, and I just couldn't get anything out of them.
